Festival Audaz will be a night to remember! From food trucks to musical acts, this event won’t be just a regular night to the average theater goer. With opportunities to support many local vendors, Festival Audaz will have it ALL on May 31 and June 1.
Each play in our initiative has been submitted and were chosen by a commitee to be selected to workshop their plays with local directors and cast for a table reading throughout the months of February and March with Teatro Audaz at the Overtime Theatre.
After which, each play received audience feedback through a Q&A panel. After a month of rehearsals, each 10 minute short is ready to go onstage at Festival Audaz

Clean by Georgie Lee | Directed by Becka Morton
Clean is a story of Latina sisterhood that explores the complexities of the bonds between family and friends. The play follows Dulce, a Latina clarinetist, who daylights as a custodian in order to pay her mother’s hospital bills. The story sheds light on the reality of our healthcare industry, unresolved resentment, and how much talent can be found in the messiest of places.
Dora’s Westside Adventure by Irene Chavez | Directed by Clarissa Ramos
In this San Antonio Dora the Explorer parody, Dora is all grown up and comes back from college to find a changing San Antonio than the one she left. As she ventures with her childhood friends, Backpack and Map, she must make her way through the Westside to Abuela's house.
The Search for Acceptance by Samwell Racer | Directed by Monie Perez
King is a kid who’s grown up around homophobia their whole life, causing them to be confused as to why they act the way they do and why they don’t seem to fit in with the other people in their life. When they begin to find their identity and change their name to Liege (a more gender-queer term than their hyper-masculine birth name) they get ostracized. As their strength wains after losing the people of their past, they are recognized and accepted by a new group of loving people within the LGBTQ+ community, and begin to fully actualize into their new identity.
June 1 - Sunday, 4 - 10 PM
Waiting for Gordo by Casey Luna | Directed by Micah Wolfe
In this beautiful adaptation of Waiting for Godot, Two Latino friends, Esteban and Valentin, sit outside an old, run-down corner store, waiting for a drug dealer named Gordo. As they wait for ‘medicine’ that they’re unsure will ever arrive, we get a glimpse into their very different lives. The conversation turns to the frustration of waiting for change and living in an unfair system. Will change ever come? Or is it something that you must do on your own?
Guardian Angel by Adrian Noel | Directed by Jackie Velez
Atticus carries much resentment towards his alma mater except for Angel, the one person he ever found solace and friendship in. His appearance at Angel's services is a surprise to himself as much as it is to others attending, as he feels out of place just as he was when in school. He is nervous to be there and eager to leave, but not before some unfinished business.
Woman Beater by Christopher J Magallanes | Directed by Mason Anthony Ortiz
When Chris gets into trouble for hitting a girl at school, Sensei Joe takes it upon himself to teach Chris a lesson in discipline in tonight’s karaoke class. Woman Beater is a cautionary tale on what control can look like.
