Audaz to the MAXX

This monthly event will be fast, fearless, and unapologetically bold—pushing boundaries in true Audaz fashion. Think SNL meets cabaret, but with our signature cultural flair, sharp wit, and a uniquely San Antonio twist.

Each show will feature a rotating lineup of comedians, writers, musicians, and performers, bringing you original sketches that are daring, hilarious, and thought-provoking.

And we’re even more excited to share that this electrifying new series will have a home at Rah Rah Room! This fantastic venue believes in our mission and is generously sponsoring our season by donating the use of their space.

Audaz to the Maxx: Sketchy Nights in San Antonio will be produced by Teatro Audaz in collaboration with the incredibly talented Maximo Anguiano (@blurbsmithblots). We’re bringing something fresh, something unexpected, and something that will have you laughing, thinking, and coming back for more every month!

We officially launch in late April 2025, and we can’t wait to have you join us for nights of comedy, social commentary, and unforgettable performances. This is theatre without limits. This is storytelling without fear. This is Audaz to the Maxx.

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

To launch our Teatro Reimagined, we are honored to present our first production: Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Ana Martinez Medina.

This classic comedy, first performed in 1895, is one of the most beloved plays in theatrical history. Known for its wit, satire, and sharp social commentary, Earnest playfully critiques class, identity, and the absurdity of societal expectations. But in the true spirit of transformation, Teatro Audaz is taking this masterpiece and reimagining it through an Audaz lens.

Our production will bring a fresh, dynamic, and culturally infused perspective to Wilde’s work—one that reflects our community and breathes new life into these iconic characters. By reshaping The Importance of Being Earnest in a way that speaks to contemporary audiences, we are not only honoring the brilliance of Wilde’s writing but also challenging the boundaries of what a “classic” can be.

This is just the beginning of a season that will celebrate reinvention, bold storytelling, and the power of theatre to evolve. We can’t wait for you to experience our Earnest—a version that is audacious, vibrant, and uniquely ours.

Stay tuned for more details on the production, and get ready to see a classic like you’ve never seen it before. Performances slated for July 2025.

More details coming soon.

Mojada

Mojada by Luis Alfaro and directed by Laura T. Garza and Associate Director: Jillian Campos

Inspired by Euripides’ Medea, Mojada is a powerful and heart-wrenching reimagining of the Greek tragedy, set in modern-day America. Luis Alfaro masterfully blends ancient myth with contemporary struggles, telling the story of an immigrant family’s journey to the United States and the sacrifices they must make to survive.

Through this production, we continue our mission of reclaiming and reshaping classic stories to reflect the realities of our community. Mojada speaks to themes of displacement, resilience, and the cost of the American Dream—all through the lens of a Latina protagonist fighting for her family’s future.

This play is raw, emotional, and deeply relevant, and we are honored to bring it to the stage in December 2025.

More details coming soon.

The House That Sex Built

Regional Premiere of THE HOUSE THAT SEX BUILT is an explosive new drama, written by Rita Anderson, about America’s newest pandemic-- Sex Addiction. THE HOUSE THAT SEX BUILT is a queer story about love, lust, and cybersex addiction. This innovative narrative--which includes elements of magical realism--exposes the underbelly of sexual addiction to understand its inner-workings, but the author’s intent is not prescriptive. The focus is on recovery, how partners of addicts deal with betrayal-trauma is a personal decision.

I-DJ

a play by Gregg Barrios

Directed by Laura T Garza
Associate Director: Larry Martinez, Jr.
March 7-17

Thank you to our Production Sponsor, The Public Theater of San Antonio, for generously donating the use of The Cellar Theater for our production of I-DJ.

I-DJ is a story of Warren Peace aka Amado Guerrero Paz, a gay Mexican American youth who finds his calling as a DJ. He spins the soundtrack of his life on the dance floor by night and by day in a gay send-up of Shakesqueer's Ham-a-lot set to a dub-step beat of ecstasy, tainted love, Rollerena and Herb Alpert. When a younger DJ challenges him to a musical standoff, their stories and their music collide. Only one will emerge triumphant.

“I-DJ was a critical hit at the 2014 Frigid Fringe New York. NPR Theater critic Jeff Lunden hailed I-DJ as "original, witty and deeply moving."
